 Manifold Vacuum Advance   (MVA)
 Dated 27th Aug, 2005

Question
  - Hi Folks

  - Another phenomenon I have come across is that carby service people have it documented that the auto transmission carbys from early 1974 were fitted with manifold vacuum advance (MVA);

  - this was done by putting a small hole in the carby butterfly plate through to the plenum from the vacuum advance hole. I know this was experimented with at the Factory (info. via Duncan Todd), but I am also aware that automatics (most?) did not leave the Factory with MVA.

  - Does anybody know the real story behind this? Also, what would you recommend that Stromberg petrol heads with automatics adopt?

  - From my own experience, I have found that not having MVA is kinder to the motor, and there is not a big difference in performance between the two set-ups, except perhaps, better fuel economy.
