"The ignition switch is functioning just."

  - The problem may not be the switch itself.

  - The switch in my car stopped functioning at all.

  - I couldn't start it.

  - With the help of a friend (an auto electrician in a former life) we got it to start, and it would restart

  - while the engine was warm.

  - But it would not start next morning when it was cold!

  - I changed the inhibitor switch on the gear box, no improvement.

  - I changed the ignition switch, using a new 'foreign' switch. No improvement.

  - I changed the relay, no improvement.

  - I was stumped for a while, but I dare not use the car because I knew I would get caught.

  - There was nothing else wrong with the car.

  - Then I had another idea.

  - The inhibitor switch wiring loom was 30 years old and had suffered heat over the years.

  - All the original connectors were still in use.

  - New connectors didn't help either.

  - Then, I replaced one of the white/red flash wires in the inhibitor switch wiring loom, and full improvement!!

  - I rebuilt the whole inhibitor switch wiring loom, and fitted it, and with the new ignition switch, it started like a new car, and has done ever since.

  - Before blaming your switch which is difficult to replace, check the inhibitor switch wiring loom; don't assume that the old wiring is as good as it was when new.
